Quran education across a very large country
Australia's Muslim communities are concentrated in Sydney and Melbourne, with strong communities in Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Canberra. In those cities there are mosques, weekend schools and full-time Islamic schools. Step outside them, to regional Victoria, inland New South Wales, Tasmania, the Gold Coast hinterland or anywhere in the Northern Territory, and the choice thins out fast. A child in a regional town may have no Quran teacher within a couple of hours' drive.
Online one-to-one lessons solve that distance. A child can recite with a teacher who listens to every word and corrects it immediately, from a spare room in Wagga Wagga or Alice Springs just as well as from a flat in Parramatta. No drive, no waiting list, and no one else to share the teacher's time with.
The lessons suit adults too. Many Australian students are parents who want to read the Quran properly alongside their children, people who recently embraced Islam, and shift workers or professionals who study at unusual hours.
Time zones from Sydney to Perth
Australia has three main time zones. Eastern time (AEST) covers New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Tasmania and the ACT, Central time (ACST) covers South Australia and the Northern Territory, and Western time (AWST) covers Western Australia. Perth is two hours behind Sydney in winter and three hours behind in summer, so the best time for a lesson is different on either side of the country.
Daylight saving makes this more interesting. New South Wales, Victoria, the ACT, Tasmania and South Australia move their clocks forward in October and back in April, becoming AEDT or ACDT in summer. Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia do not change at all. You do not need to track any of this: tell us the time you want and the lesson stays at that hour on your own clock, whatever your state does.
Fitting Quran into the Australian school year
The Australian school year has four terms, running from late January or early February to mid December, with a two-week break between terms and a long summer holiday over Christmas and January. Each state sets its own dates, so a Victorian family and a Queensland family are rarely on holiday in the same week. Our lessons are booked family by family, so you can add lessons during term breaks and the long summer holiday, then step back during busy weeks like NAPLAN, HSC or VCE exams.
School generally finishes at around three o'clock, and many children then go to sport, music or tutoring. We offer lessons at any time, 24/7. Most families choose after-school and evening slots from four until nine. We ask you to choose a time your child can keep each week. A fixed weekly slot is the single biggest factor in steady progress.
Many families also run a weekend routine around Islamic school, Arabic school or a community mosque. Private lessons are easy to add around those, and they do not replace them.
Ramadan and Eid in the southern hemisphere
Ramadan moves about ten or eleven days earlier each year, and because Australia is in the southern hemisphere, the seasons are the reverse of Europe and North America. When Ramadan falls in the Australian winter, days are short and fasting is easier; when it falls in summer, days are long and hot. We adjust lessons to your household's rhythm and move times around Taraweeh when asked.
Eid is not a public holiday in Australia, which means children often attend school on the morning of Eid or take the day off with a parent. We plan lessons around it so nobody has to choose between celebration and consistency.
Class times across Australia
Classes are available 24/7 in your own local time. The most popular slots are after school and into the evening. If you are in Sydney, a 5 PM lesson is 5 PM Sydney time, and the same goes in Adelaide or Perth.
| When | Time (AEST / ACST / AWST) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Eastern (AEST/AEDT) | 24/7 · most popular 4 PM – 9 PM | Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Hobart. |

Online lessons alongside weekend Islamic school
Weekend Islamic schools, Arabic schools and mosque classes are an important part of life for Australian Muslim families, and full-time Islamic schools offer a complete education. Private online lessons are different, and they work well with all of these.
| Feature | Weekend or mosque class | Online one-to-one |
|---|---|---|
| Class size | Group classes with a shared teacher | One student, one teacher, the full lesson |
| Distance | A drive in the car, often long in regional areas | None, from any quiet room |
| Timing | Fixed weekend or weekday slot | Booked around school, sport, work and your time zone |
| Attention | Limited recitation time per child | Your child recites for the whole lesson |
| Pace | Set by the class | Set by the student, with a tailored curriculum |
| Teacher choice | Assigned | A male or female teacher, your choice |
| Updates | Varies | Monthly progress report for parents |
Families in the big cities often keep their weekend school and add two private lessons per week for reading and Tajweed. Families in regional and remote areas often use online lessons on their own.

Teachers matched for Australian students
Each student chooses between a male and a female teacher, and you can ask for a different teacher if the first match is not right.
For Australian students we look for a teacher who explains clearly in English, who is comfortable teaching children with busy school and sport schedules, and who can teach at the local time that suits you, including after school and evenings. Teachers are certified and vetted with background checks, and class audio is recorded for quality assurance.
Your free trial is a real lesson with the teacher you would be learning with, so you can judge their teaching style before you commit to anything.
What your child can learn
Most beginners start with Noorani Qaida, which teaches the Arabic letters, their sounds and how they join. Students then move on to Quran reading with Tajweed, and those who want to memorise can begin Hifz. Islamic studies and Hadith classes are available too.
The plan is tailored to each student's age, level and speed, and parents receive a monthly progress report that shows exactly what has been covered.
- Noorani Qaida for children and adults who are starting from the alphabet
- Quran reading with Tajweed for fluent, accurate recitation
- Hifz (memorisation) with revision around school and sport
- Islamic studies for kids and Hadith classes
